Article: World of Warcraft TCG: Spotlight – Renewal of Life - Revised

You may have read my previous article about a local deck that I’ve been having fun with based on the Badge of Justice redemption card Renewal of Life. If you haven’t, you can check it out here. Today’s article talks about some revisions that the deck went through based upon feedback and suggestions from those who read it, together with a finalized deck list.

The Revisions

By far the greatest problem that this deck has seen is if the Renewal of Life is “worked around”. This essentially happens in one of two ways – they either destroy the ring before its power can be triggered, or they remove all of its allies from the graveyard. Interrupts are also a major issue.

The previous deck had three cards to help get around these issues – the Greatsword of Horrid Dreams stopped allies like Scrapper and Munkin from destroying the ring the turn they came into play, the Glimmer of Hope stopped abilities like Puncture or The Natural Order from destroying it, and Blessing of Liberty could stop Vindicator’s Brand from targeting it. In addition, to stop it from being removed from the hand, Blessing of Salvation had to be dealt with first.

This still left two major weaknesses – counter abilities (Nether Fracture) and Cannibalize. Cannibalize still isn’t stopped with this version, although Adyen the Lightwarden could be useful in this regard. Interrupts have no real answer in paladins, unless we switch to Horde for Arcane Torrent, but that ruins the overall game plan of this deck.

In general, if we look at control decks and assume an auto-loss, as both interrupts and Cannibalize tend to be used in those types of decks, we can focus on shoring up the deck against standard answers to equipment.
