A New Breed of Zombie-Pocalypse

I must have killed zombies in every way imaginable in every game world from the old west to deep space stations millions of light years away from habitable planets. I’ve killed them using bear traps, lightning, shotguns and on one memorable occasion a train. I’ve even had occasion to have a long running and seemingly insurmountable argument with many friends about the choice of weapon best suited to the eradication, boiling down to a grudge match between a chainsaw and a cricket bat.

[For informational purposes, the winner was the cricket bat. The chainsaw was prone to jamming and fuel issues. Try it for yourself, you’ll see it’s true.]

The same could be said of most seasoned roleplayers, at one point or another they’ve gone up against hordes of zombies, in the same way they’ve probably killed millions of ninjas, pirates, cowboys, robots and Nazis.

Time to throw something new into the mix.

I write games, systems and GM whenever I get chance and yes, every now and then it’s time to throw the party up against zombies. They’re a nice easy villain to work with and you don’t have to spend time working out the motivation of individual NPC’s… ‘braiiiiiins’ pretty much works on all levels.

One thing that might surprise is the wealth of different zombie types available to choose from when constructing your games, and more to the point none of these types are new, watch some films, read a couple of books and you’ll recognise some types you’ll have seen, and yet when it comes to the actual games most times all you’ll see is a bog standard zombie taken straight from the ‘Day of the Dead’.

A bit of time and effort, and what you’ll end up with is not just a standard romp and a party shouting for BRAIIIIIINS, but a fuller aspect and hopefully a party that’s got to sweat a little more and maybe swearing at you every now and then.

Isn’t that what being a GM is all about?

So look down the list in the manner of a mail order catalogue and why not order yourself a few dozen of your new favourite type of walking dead? Our call centre is ready to take your call any time of day and with every order of 100 or more we’ll overnight them for free and maybe throw in an extra carton of shotgun shells…
