Warhammer 40,000 Armies - Part 3, Orkz
Date: 9 Dec 2009
Another day, another army review! Today I'm tackling the green horde: The Orkz! Now, as any player familiar with the 40k-universe will know: 'Orkzes is bestest', as the Orkz themselves would put it. They live to fight and fighting is what they do best. They can field some of the cheapest units in the entire game and still pack quite a punch.
Most people field Ork armies as combat armies, which is a strategy I've always disagreed with. I find that even though a single Ork may be terrible at shooting, when there are 200+ models all firing then whatever they're shooting at is probably going to die in short order. Since a lot of their weapons are Assault weapons as well, they can also be on the move to counter enemy strategies as fast as possible, and we can't forget that Red 'Unz Go Fasta!
Anyhow, rambling over. Time for the pros and cons!
Pros:
- Cheap units.
- Can easily field lots of models in a single army.
- Lots of choice when it comes to writing army lists.
- Very mobile and very good for countering the enemy.
- Good for painting and converting.
- Many plastic kits, making them cheap to play.
Cons:
- Below average statline.
- Very little in the way of armour.
- Highly vulnerable to enemies with large amounts of ordinance or firepower.
- Variable leadership can work against you.
Playing a successful Ork army can require a fair bit of tact and quick thinking on the player's part, but the outcome can often lead to success. Starting an Ork army is especially easy now that Assault on Black Reach is available!
Anyhow, that's another quick army review over for today. My next army review is a bit closer to home.
