Table Top Gamers and Haitian Relief!

I believe many things about gamers. I know we all have our own ideas about what makes a gamer a gamer. I know popular media and the population at large have their own stereotypes and concepts, many of them very negative. The thing I know for certain, a thing I don't have to 'believe' because it's a fact; gamers care.

We might get wrapped up in edition wars, debates of gender and racial equality and what's the right and wrong thing to bring to a gaming table in terms of stories. But the bottom line is, gamers can be some of the most thoughtful, intelligent and socially conscious people I know because we have explored so many of these things in their games around the table.

But okay, don't take my word for it. Go look at the proof being raised over at Drivethrurpg.com. They are raising money for the work Doctor's Without Borders is doing in Haiti, and more importantly, they're matching donations dollar to dollar. At the time I wrote this, they'd already raised close to $4,000. For people the media says can't be bothered to live off of anything but video games and pizza, I say 'heck yay!' and by the way media, that's four thousand reasons you're completely wrong about us.

But we can do more. If you go to the Drivethru right now and donate $20 they'll match you. And more than match you, they'll send you a mega-thank-you in the form of a mega-pdf bundle of close to $2,000 worth of PDF downloads for free. Dozens of publishers got together to get you free PDFs of games as a 'thank you' for sending your money to help Haiti. (And believe me, we all know just how far you could make that $20 go. We understand it's worth.) They'll only be offering the bundle to the end of January, so send the money now and check out that thank you! Let's really shock people with just how much money we can raise.
