Exciting locations for your stories and adventures don't have to be exotic, distant locations. You don't have to absorb the culture and history of a nation on the other side of the globe. Even if you live in the smallest Podunk town there is likely history, mystery and the suggestion of story seeds and adventure. Do you live in a city? Regardless of size, intrigue and crime likely went to the creation of some part of your zip code. A little town in the middle of nowhere? I'm sure if you looked into the reasons why your towns founder picked nowhere. If there's not a story hook there, email me and I'll mail you a dollar. Are you in college? Let me give you a fantastic example of just how much good story juice is probably just laying around your campus waiting to be used in a game.

Location, Location, Location takes us to cheerful Athens, Ohio. Home of, among other things, Ohio University.

It is also one of the most haunted places in America.....

(You can imagine the dramatic music and lightning out of the window, right? That'll really help the mood. Thanks.)

Apparently, there's this location around the university called 'the Ridge.' That is, the place is the home of Athens Lunatic Asylum, a place known for hundreds of questionable lobotomies. If that doesn't get your creative juice going, I'll go on.

Apparently, beyond the lobotomies, missing patience and bizarre Victorian diagnostics and treatments, the Asylum's many buildings are incredibly haunted by the ghosts of numerous patients.

For instance, there is allegedly a stain left by the decomposing corpse of a female patient who went missing for weeks before her corpse was found that will not clean up.

Want to get a little Lovecraftian/occult conspiritory around the campus? There are five cemeteries around the campus that, when looked at on a map, create an upside-down pentagram. That's just begging for a cult and a Hellmouth in the basement of a public building.
Feel like mixing your scary ghostly mysteries with some Weird Science? Ohio University has a collider. That's right, an Atom Smasher. Can you say nuclear haunting? I know I can.
