Impressions of Wrathgate, the WoW TCG (Part 3 - Allies)

We previously discussed the abilities. After shifting through all the various abilities and the new decks that they can create as well as the old decks that they support, we turn to allies. Allies often are the easiest to be replaced in each set, and they are the ones that usually have the most “chaff” – many allies simply never see the light of Constructed play. Let’s take a look at Wrathgate’s new friends…I’ll rate each on a scale of one to ten for Constructed and Draft play (ten being very good), and if I feel it’s necessary, I’ll make a comment.

Alliance Allies

“Tubs” Klankbopple: Constructed 1 (high cost, situational ability), Draft 8 (underpowered stats, will almost always kill something)

Antyr: Constructed 1 (high cost, better sources for power), Draft 5 (high cost, decent stats, situationally useful ability)

Arlen the Untamed: Constructed 5 (fun for form decks that utilize allies, such as Pack Tactics), Draft 6 (stats are on curve, can provide a boost with a form, but forms are temporary)

Armored Snowy Gryphon: Constructed 7 (fun for decks that utilize locations, especially with Fordragon Hold; helps speed early plays, and can power locations with counters), Draft 1 (will most likely only have at most one location, provides no benefits in general)

Ayluro Nightwind: Constructed 1 (who needs to heal allies for 5 points after waiting a whole turn?), Draft 5 (if you can protect him he can heal your allies for better trades)

Bantham, Jadefist Apprentice: Constructed 2 (there are better two cost protectors, such as Xanata and Giralo, or simply stronger ones like Kulvo), Draft 8 (very fast protector with good stats that can attack if need be)

Blazemistress Lindsey: Constructed 2 (perhaps you use Deathrattle and then she could do some fun tricks, but her stats are still not impressive, and she has no protection), Draft 6 (destroying allies with her powers is a relatively good trade for the most part)

Bolvar, Highlord of Fordragon Hold: Constructed 9 (he’s untargetable in the 5 drop slot after Myriam, he accelerates your resources, and his Death Rattle allows you to replay a location which simply triggers your mount powers again, making it less of a downside), Draft 8 (despite the fact you probably won’t have the location to go with him, he’s still an untargetable 5/4 ally)
