Every year Games Workshop get to let their hair down and show off to their fanbase. Staff members set out in force to put together the biggest event of the year for Games Workshop fans. Fans from all across the UK travel to Birmingham for just a few hours. Thousands of people gather together in the pursuit of one hobby. The last Sunday of September. This is Games Day UK.

Games Workshop host a number of these events around the globe, but without a doubt the UK event is the biggest and brightest; GW are located in England after all. Since GW need to keep a tight lip on all their latest releases, everyone looks forward to the UK Games Day for news of the latest releases and the latest Forge World and GW sculpts and miniatures. Games Day is the only event solely dedicated to the pursuit of the Warhammer hobby, so thousands look forward to this day.

Aside from the thousands of gamers, there are hundreds of entries every year for the Golden Demon painting contest. The best painters from across the UK (And some from across Europe as well!) submit miniatures they've been building and painting for months and years in hope of winning one of the prestigious Golden Demon trophies, or the ultimate prize: The Slayer Sword.

This year's Games Day had a lot to feature. After 12 years of waiting, the new Dark Eldar codex has been written and new models have been sculpted. Forge World have released a new Necron miniature which itnroduced a change to the Necrons that has been sorely needed.

Not only that, but THQ were out in force to show off Dawn of War II: Retribution and Space Marine upcoming in the first quarter of next year. To compliment their new releases, THQ dragged along a life-size Space Marine and Ork to attract people to their booths.
