Fantasy Flight Games has dropped their CCGs
Date: 1 Feb 2010
So, after 2 years of running an unsuccessful TCG and a successful CCG, FFG (Too many double-constanants-followed-by-G..) has recently dropped both of these from their production and publishing lines. After several months of failing to meet many of their playerbase's expectations for the Kingdom Hearts TCG and trying to keep the Universal Fighting System CCG from going under, Fantasy Flight Games (FFG) made a public message iterating their intent to cut these games from their production lines since they were no longer profiting enough to warrant continuing their publication.Fantasy Flight Games was in the process of translating series of the Kingdom Hearts TCG from its Japanese proprietor, Tomy, and publishing them in North America and were continuing the sale and publication of the Universal Fighting System CCG after absorbing its original publishers; Black Industries and Sabertooth Games.
The decision to drop these card games came after months of being unable to set up an Official Play system for the Kingdom Hearts TCG and leaving it to become mostly player-driven and leaving Universal Fighting System's Official Play to continue as it was run under Sabertooth Games.
Several fans feel at a loss and are waiting for another company to pick up the card games that the playerbase cares so much for, other fans are taking it upon themselves to translate cards and run ad hoc tournaments in Fantasy Flight Game's stead.
As it stands, the future of these card games remains uncertain. Whilst Universal Fighting System was popular, the Kingdom Hearts TCG has now died from unpopularity in both Japan and America and will probably suffer from it's bad reputation. Personally I expect Universal Fighting System to get picked up by another company at some point in the near future.
