Emanuele Giusti Wins Brussels Grand Prix 2010
Date: 30 Mar 2010
As reported to me by the Wizards of the Coast Press staff: "Most people who are playing Jund are playing it because they can't beat it. Everyone who isn't playing Jund thinks they have a good chance of beating it. Until Alara rotates out of Standard and the Eldrazi are out, Jund is the meta."The matches were dominated by these meta-heavy decks: Jund Black/Green/Red decks using Bloodbraid Elf and Sprouting Thrinax as staple cards were dominant decktype with most other decks being anti-Jund decks or anti-meta. The most popular of these decks seen were standard burn and Blue/White control decks, with several 'White Wienie' (Mono-colour White decks that feature several low power, low cost creatures and spells) decks making an appearance. Supposedly somewhere in the sea of tables there were some players with Red/Green/White Ally decks that were making quite a splash.
Regardless of what people were playing though, the sheer amount of Jund decks managed to beat everybody down. After the rigorous matches leading up to the finals, more than half of the Top 8 players were using Jund decks. Two of the other qualifying decks were a pair of identical 75 card Mythic decks being used by traveling companions from Hungary.
The quarter finals were heated, with both Mythic decks and two Jund decks going through to the semi-finals. In those semi-finals, both Mythic decks were forced to face each other in a mirror match whilst the other semi-final consisted of a harsh Jund vs Jund match.
The finals consisted of Emanuele Giusti from Italy playing his Jund deck and Zoltan Szoke from Hungary with his Mythic deck. With a pair of incredibly close matches both going to Emanuele Giusti, this Grand Prix victor was declared with a Jund deck once again taking home the top prize.
