Score 7/10Review:
Singularity

I have to talk about what I believe is one of the unsung heroes of Xbox FPS; Singularity. When gamers hear the term ‘FPS’, they think of course of the bigger titles such as Halo or the almighty Call of Duty but in my opinion, Singularity has risen up to meet the standard. This game is without a doubt the underdog, with little advertisement for a mainstream game and little recognition from its peers, it still proves admirably. I don’t see it winning any major awards or revolutionising Xbox LIVE but that certainly doesn’t mean it’s not worth picking up a controller and playing.

First of all, I’ll mention the storyline due to the creativeness and stray from the FPS template of the main character being the only one that can save the world by shooting their way through everything like another Rambo film. The story follows that after the Second World War, the Russians engage in a nuclear arms race in order to beat their American rivals. In doing so, they stumble across a new element known only as the illusive E99. With the unknown potential of E99, a research facility is set up on the uncharted island of Katorga-12. With the pressure from Stalin and the advancement of communism, disaster strikes as one of the scientists on the island provokes an event which affects the entire island upon handling a new weapon developed with the new E99. All memory of Katorga-12 is then forgotten until present day 2010, where its location is revealed to the Americans, who react by sending a recon team in to investigate. This is where the gameplay begins and the journey of Captain Nathaniel Renko (member of US Special Forces and part of the recon team) unfolds. Pretty different from conventional sci-fi don’t you think?
