In past articles I’ve mentioned my hunt for card games in videogames, and the Yu-Gi-Oh! card games are no exception to this hunt. Most of the Yu-Gi-Oh! games that emulate the card game have been excellent, and they seem only to be getting better.
This article will give a brief review of the game, a brief walkthrough, some sample decks to try, and some advice on the racing minigame contained in the game. As per the usual, it’s too much to cover in simply one article, so this is the first part; with the other parts covering more aspects.

The Game – Basics

Before jumping into the game, bear in mind that Yu-Gi-Oh! Reverse of Arcadia has an excellent tutorial that steps through all of the basics. If you’ve never played Yu-Gi-Oh! before, the tutorial is a great way to learn about the game. It also rewards you with some practice duels – these duels give you DP, which can be used to purchase cards later.

Assuming that you’ve gone through the tutorial and understand the basics of the game, there are some things you should be aware of:

Cards:

There are a total of 3556 cards in this set. This includes Egyptian Gods, Speed Spells, Speed World 2, and alternate artwork cards. It includes all of the Structure decks up to Structure Deck 18 (Machina), promotional packs up to Premium Pack 12, cards from the OCG Booster Packs up to Absolute Powerforce, Duel Terminals up to Duel Terminal – Pulse of the Trishula, as well as many others such as the promotional card Cyber Eltanin.

Cards are usually purchased via Structure Decks and Booster Packs by spending DP, but you can also find cards in the Story Mode, as well as be given cards in the Story Mode (once found, you cannot find the same cards again in the Story Mode, but you can be given the same cards again at key points in the story). You can also get random cards by racing your duel runner, although these will usually be Speed Spell cards or cards to do with Turbo Duels.
