Review:
Torchlight by Runic

Torchlight, a game by Runic (the former Flagship Studio team behind massively multiplayer online role-playing game Mythos) has reformed as Runic Games. Now, before I go into the detail of what Torchlight is, let me tell you what it is not.

Torchlight is not anything you have not seen before, and let me get this clear, it is not anything that may or may not work well. This game is not an experiment, it is a perfection, a refining and honing of game crafting lore, tried and tested.

If you look at the undoubtedly popular World of Warcraft, you can see that the graphics are very similar to those found in Torchlight, but I must say, having played both games for quite a few hours, Torchlight has this certain depth of field that really engages the eye.

WoW has the huge advantage of all that multi player element, of course if that is what you are after, then be my guest (along with the hefty monthly fee). But for those of you who, like me, just want to unwind and blow stuff up with satisfying blasts of power, accompanied by just the right amount of wall splattering vital fluids, then torchlight is the game for you.

It is pretty, building on all your favorite elements of Diablo and adding World of Warcraft style graphics with a depth of field that really has to be experienced to be truly appreciated.

It is honed, like anything that is really classic, anyone can just pick this up and run with it, Diablo, in many ways, set the standard for ease of use graphical interface controls, and this is another feather in Runic's cap.

You could entertain certain gripes along the way, and what review would be honest without the few nit picks, but I think a bit more effort and maybe money could have been spent on voice actors.

Come on Runic, give us some credit, we can recognize a good voice when we hear it, and the sound bites on this game leave me wanting some real, recognizable quality. Surely after the revue garnered from Mythos you can afford some token big name, recognizable and talented voice actors along for the ride?
