Tomb Raider: Underworld (PS3)

Back in 1996, the original Tomb Raider revolutionised the platform genre and introduced one of today’s most iconic game heroines in Lara Croft. The game spawned a number of successful sequels over the years but eventually hit a wall, with each new entry offering little more than its predecessor. In 2006, publisher Eidos Interactive handed development responsibilities over to Crystal Dynamics in the hope that the American outfit might breathe new life into the stale franchise. The gamble paid off, with the company’s first effort Tomb Raider: Legend proving something of a renaissance for the series. With the game receiving a strong reception from fans and critics, its follow-up Tomb Raider: Underworld has a lot to live up to, and could have been a classic were it not for the same gameplay defects and camera-induced frustration and that has plagued Lara’s outings since day one.
