PSN locking PS3 owners out
Date: 1 Mar 2010
It looks like there's been a bit of an error on Sony's PSN servers recently: PS3 owners connected to PSN are turning their console on to find themselves locked out of PSN, incapable of accessing their trophies, use their themes and in the worst case scenarios: Unable to play certain games offline. The trend appears to be in the older 'fat' PS3s, which might point to some sort of incompatibility issue concerning the newer slimline PS3s. Another possibility that is equally unlikely is that Sony recently re-designed their website and may be tinkering around with PSN to update something or other.
This unfortunate problem is hitting PS3s all over the world, meaning that any PS3 owner with an internet connection is liable to be hit with this odd problem. Users all around the globe are complaining to Sony only to be met with a simple "We apologise for the inconvenience. We're working on remedying it.".
It's only been a day so far, and since the problem was noticeable so quickly it's safe to assume that Sony will have a fix out as fast as they possibly can. It is annoying to be locked out of games like Heavy Rain when you're in the middle of the storyline or when you're really in the mood to jump on Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer only to find that you're completely locked out, but perhaps this is an opportunity to play something else or embrace the offline world entirely whilst you wait for Sony to fix the problem.
