No More Heroes, or Never Were Heroes? (No More Heroes 2 Review)

No More Heroes 2 just dropped today, and let me tell you, ooooooooooooooooooooooh boy, you're in for a treat. Travis Touchdown is back again, wielding his familiar beam katana and wrestling moves, ready to kick ass.

Set three years after the original game, Travis decided the assassin life wasn't for him. That is, until an assassin named Skelter Helter shows up. Skelter tells Travis that he is the brother of the very first assassin Travis had ever killed, and that it was time to take revenge. The two fight, however inevitably Travis wins with a nice slice through the neck. This does not kill Skelter right away, though. Before he dies, he warns Travis that just like he took away Skelter's brother, he would do the same.

Needless to say, the vixen Sylvia Christel (the agent who gives Travis all his assassin intel) entices Travis to rejoin the UAA and climb back to the top. Her reward of choice for Travis' victory? Allowing Travis to have his way with her, or as she describes it, the "full course meal". Motivated by lust, Travis sets off to become the #1 assassin yet again. Things take a wild turn, and Travis' best friend Bishop is killed (aka Skelter's revenge on Travis). Enraged, Travis discovers that conveniently, the person who had Bishop murdered is the #1 assassin. Fueled by the carnal emotions of lust and anger, Travis sets off to systematically kill the top 50 assassins.

No More Heroes 2 does exactly what I had hoped. They took all the greatest parts of the game and improved them, while axing the parts that weren't so great. For example, you can control Travis now with the Wiimote + Nunchuk or with the classic controller. Some are alluding to the addition of the classic controller instead of Wii Motion+ support to mean that No More Heroes is going to make the jump to one of the more "heavy" consoles, however it does make the game play like a nice hack-n-slash should.

Travis no longer has to run throughout the world to get to his next objectives. You can easily select and go straight to where you need to, stop running missions and play sidequests if you'd like, or buy cool gear for Travis.
