Little King's Story Review
Review by Tom Pullings
Caden and Zara have fallen in love and as the King I’m responsible for overseeing their marriage. They appear outside the church to the sound of wedding bells and instantly a stork delivers them a child! All this after a day where I have led my team of Guards, Construction and Cultivation workers on a trip around my kingdom digging for treasure and trying to defeat the Onils.
Little King’s Story, published by Rising Star Games and developed by Cing/Town Factory is a charming, truly original game with great quality that is appealing to all ages and is perfect for a Wii family. This heart warming tale begins with Corobo, a mere civilian discovering a mysterious crown that grants him the ability to charm any person, and make them follow his orders.
Objectives are given by Howser, the king’s trusty Bull Knight whilst Liam, your ‘need to know anything’ man, provides the player tutorials and specific job information for your peasants through a menu system. Responsibility as the King is tough, villagers can leave you suggestions, give their own unique feedback on how well you are doing and provide quests for you to complete. One of the first quests you get is to defeat a cow with a skull head, but be careful, your citizens are loyal and will follow you into battle but they can get seriously hurt; Mike didn’t return from the fight. Fortunately there is a regular Alpoko news feed providing updates on your kingdom and Mike was reported as being washed ashore the next morning; he is alive and well.
Little King’s Story has a gentle beginning that leads to an expansive game with great interaction and the full responsibility of your decisions being lived out. Whilst following an epic quest of world domination you will find deadly attacking sunflowers, mad cows and dangerous snails in a game that provides a good sense of humour for all ages and great attention to detail. There is nothing little about this King’s Story – this could be the best selling Wii game of 2009.
