Review: Legio: Brutal Strategic Combat

I recently received a review copy of the new turn-based strategy game, Legio, by Ice Game Studios. I've always been an avid fan of turn based strategies, since Final Fantasy Tactics vaulted this genre to main stream.  This game is going to be available for $9.95 at www.gamersgate.com starting May 25th.

The basic plot line is that a poor kingdom of Bella Lagucia is ruled by two inept heirs to the throne, and in order to make any decision they play a brutal game where their armies clash and try to sack the other's castle. Legio is the name of that brutal game.

Let's be honest - the story is only flair on the surface of what this game really is, and that's one-on-one strategic combat.

Basics:
As mentioned, Legio is a turn based strategy game where you purchase armies and fight. Each player gets 25 points which they can spend on various units, ranging from the common warrior to a powerful magician or even a giant. Each type of unit has a cost ranging from 3-6 points, and a set number of reserves available.

Units:

Warrior - Basic melee combat unit.
Captain - Higher cost melee unit, who gives offense and defense bonuses to nearby warriors.
Warrabbit - Very fast, long range melee unit that can move through occupied spaces.
Assassin - Fast moving melee unit that can turn invisible.
