Gears of War 2 (XBox 360)

The first Gears Of War was… alright. The tight feel of the game was brilliant, with its simple yet endlessly enjoyable cover mechanic pasted from start to finish, as were the gorgeous visuals that showed what the next generation was capable of. While the hype from players was justifiable, the critical acclaim was a little generous: the unreasonably short campaign, uninspired universe and average multiplayer made it an uneven package and left me simply whelmed. Epic Games has done an incredible job at pushing everything further while keeping it that same simple, polished experience everyone went nuts for two years ago.
