Review:
Fallen Earth
I have been anticipating reviewing a game. Fallen Earth just so happened to catch my eye when, I was checking my email. I was expecting this game to be like any other game. I was going off of World of Warcraft and the Sims. The same basic setup, creating a character, building your reputation, level up and have fun. Well to come down to it, it was just like I thought, but I was surprised about this game.
The character selection was very basic. To start off, changing the hair style and color, then you move onto body and facial reconstruction. There isn't too much you can do on character selection. I have only found one game that is good on that and that is the Sims. I think character creation is a big part of the game. You want to be different from other players. It gets boring to see the same character hair and clothes on other characters. There needs to be something done about that. A gamer wants to be proud of the character he or she made. They don't want to look like other people in the game.
What’s cool about creating on this game is the character name can be spaced. Which means you can have a first and last name. The creators did a good job coming up with this. Not a lot of games let you have a space in your names. This makes it harder to come up with a name for your character. A person types in a name that they have used for a long time and they find out they can't use it because someone else used it first. Well with the space it opens up a whole new idea of name making. You can use first and last names or you can just come up with something little with two words or more. Name making is very important to your character as well as making the character. Gamers need something strong to represent themselves in the game.
As I was playing I noticed I was a high level. I was very confused about that. Well come to find out, when you start off in Hoover Dam, The overall mission was to disarm a bomb. The whole idea of this was to get the player use to the game and how the company on the game started the whole cloning idea. This is what starts the story line and how you will do missions later in the game. I like how this game used towns and places in the United States. It feels that you are at home but also in something that isn't your home. The player will find places that may look familiar but it looks old and ran down.

1) wsad for movement - ie how fallen earth does it by default is THE standard for action / shooter games, period. fallen earth's default control system is not 'broken' or faulty - it is simply implementing what gamers expect from a control system. if you press middle-mouse (or tab) the game switches from move mode to 'aiming mode' for combat - perhaps this is what you were having issues with? the simple fact that you actually have to aim at enemies seems to be the biggest 'issue' that WoW players run across. Don't see that being any kind of downside though - who'da thunk it - a game that actually forces you to do something instead of just 'click n wait' ;}
You can use w/s to move and hold the right mouse to move just like in WoW - no strangeness there - not sure what you mean by 'glitching'.
Regarding mission givers - on every map (mini / larger strategic map) there are big green 'x' indicators to show which show you which characters can be talked to - most of which are mission givers of some kind. Not sure how much easier it could be to find them.
Once you have a mission, you get a big red 'x' pointing you to the mission destination.
Regarding finding mats for crafting - unlike WoW, there are icons on the maps that point you to the various types of nodes, harvest, scavenge, mining, etc - and a big part of FE is simply the collecting and crafting of the various items that you need to survive the wasteland. You didn't even mention the crafting system, which means that you are missing out on one of the strongest elements of FE versus other similar games.
I definitely agree with your comments regarding character creation & customization - this is one area that the forums / community have been trying to get the developers to emphasize / work on more. There definitely needs to be 'more' ways to customize the appearance of your character. Who knows if they will address this, but I have been extremely impressed and surprised with how fast the developers are in addressing even minor issues in the game - so if it's something that remotely interests you, FE is well worth checking out.
Been playing FE since beta, and it's the first MMO that has actually held my interest - the setting, the need to craft everything you use in the game, the combat system, you name it - it's a very well put together game all around.
Hope to see you in the wasteland in the future.
