Dismay at Another GT5 Delay

Date: 14 Oct 2010
Sad times today for Gran Turismo fans, as Sony announce yet another delay in the release of the eagerly anticipated Gran Turismo 5, citing kinks in the game's 'complex system' as the reason.

The driving simulator is actually only on its second delay, having missed a release deadline earlier this year in March, and is now moving from its second deadline of November 2nd to sometime in the "holiday season", with the game being supposedly due for release in 2010. The official PlayStation blog initially did not specify the reasons for this new delay, simply stating that they wanted "to make certain they are creating the perfect racing experience". A little while afterwards, however, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi tweeted his reasons for the delay, apologetically claiming that there were kinks in the system of the game.

Due to the fervent anticipation for this game, I have seen MANY upset fans venting their rage on forums, having seen their gaming schedules undergo another change. A particularly humorous comment accused developers Polyphony Digital of hiring the now unemployed team who were previously working on Duke Nukem Forever, a title which has now been in development for 13 years! I suppose old habits would die hard...

I can't say I'm particularly upset by this news, but it does seem rather strange for a game that has been in development for many years now, one which was in a position to release a Prologue version of the game almost 3 years ago to appease the loyal fans, and was able to hold a PSN Time Trial challenge earlier this year, is still imperfect.

Still, all this delay does is add to the already-high expectation from Gran Turismo 5; it should now be perfect in all aspects, gameplay-wise, graphics-wise, everything-wise. So how about we all stop complaining, give Polyphony Digital the time they need, and enjoy a perfect example of driving simulation when they feel it's ready?
