Dead Isand - Flop or not?
Date: 13 Apr 2011
You must have seen the trailer by now; a CG zombie attack played backwards as a family of three are mercilessly slaughtered by an overwhelming horde. This first look of the up and coming zombie slasher Dead Island reels you in straight away, but will the actual game live up to the expectations people now have of it?The main issue for me is if this game strays far enough from the god-awful creation, Dead Rising 2. So far the game unfortunately has too many similarities such as weapon combinations, an RPG style levelling system and melee combat. By doing this the game is at severe risk of crumbling as fast as it has risen. I really hope that it doesn’t turn into the same mundane game of wandering around endlessly between loading screens and repeating the same move until you’re blue in the face just to get from A to B.
After the success of the Left for Dead series, co-operative play is a must have for Dead Island and will make or break any zombie game. Unless you play as the zombie like the original Xbox title Stubbs the Zombie, multiplayer is certainly something that draws me into a zombie game.
Being as there has been so little revealed of it, Dead Island is on the cusp of becoming a really great game, or just something to add to the bargain bin. As for all games it’s hard to tell until release but as more information is revealed about the game, I am becoming less interested and stricken by it as I was when I first watched the trailer.
