Dawn of War 2 Last Stand Hive Tyrant Profile

Relic Games are set to release the first expansion for their Warhammer 40,000 RTS game Dawn of War 2 this March, and it's going to be bringing a host of updates: new units, a new faction – Chaos, new single player missions and more. However, one of the slightly more overlooked features is the addition of a couple of new playable characters in their Last Stand game mode, which pits a group of three players against hordes of ever escalating numbers of enemies.

One of the new playable characters to be released with the expansion is the Hive Tyrant. This thorny fella' is from the Tyranid faction - completely throwing out any sort of lore that could have been conjured in Last Stand - and has quite a few interesting upgrades and potential play styles. While from the get go in the lower levels, he's likely to work mostly as a tanking character, packing large armour values and high health regeneration, as he levels more options open up and he could become a summoning support class.

Some of the wargear unlocked for the tyrant in later levels includes: Warrior Nest at level 7 and Ravener Nest at an unknown level. These two bits of wargear, while not strengthening the Hive Tyrant itself will allow him to summon a warrior and ravener unit to guard, and fight on behalf of said tyrant. This will most likely play out in a similar fashion to the current dreadnaught drop pod equip able by the Space Marine force commander.

Some of the other wargear, while having benefits for the HT itself, also help the summoned units. Heavy Talons - equip able at level 10 - give each of the tyrant's strikes a knockdown and knock back effect. At the same time they make the summoned units invulnerable to knock back. Evolution however, acquired at level 20, is a commander item with a lot of effects. Not only does it +2 to the health regen of the HT, it also grants minions 50 health and +2 to regen, but gives them 25% ranged and melee damage, and 25% to movement speed.

The Chaos Sorcerer is expected to be the second new member of The Last Stand team, so keep your eyes peeled for the next big reveal.
