Continuing on with my review of the latest expansion for Dawn of War II, I'm taking a look at the multiplayer additions, specifically the new characters for The Last Stand. Chaos Rising brings several new things to Dawn of War IIs multiplayer experience, including new units for each race, new tier modifications and new characters for The Last Stand.

Today I'm reviewing the Tyranid Hive Tyrant unit for The Last Stand.

The Hive Tyrant is a warrior-beast that directs the will of the hivemind and in doing so directs the force of the Tyranids around him, memorable as the final fight against the Tyranids in Dawn of War IIs campaign.

The Hive Tyrant serves as a combat monster. Capable of fighting several opponents in combat at once and using less powerful long-ranged attacks to draw attention to itself, it works quite well as a tank. Tanking on it's own though, is not where the Hive Tyrant's strength lies; several of the upgrades the Hive Tyrant receives for it's wargear are summoning abilities, allowing the Hive Tyrant to have a small force of three Tyranid units supporting it in combat, increasing it's longevity by huge amounts.
