Continuing on with my review of the latest expansion for Dawn of War II, I'm taking a look at the multiplayer additions, specifically the new characters for The Last Stand. Chaos Rising brings several new things to Dawn of War IIs multiplayer experience, including new units for each race, new tier modifications and new characters for The Last Stand.
Today I'm reviewing the Chaos Sorcerer unit for The Last Stand.
The Chaos Sorcerer hails from the newly added race for Dawn of War II: Chaos Marines. As his name suggests, he is from the Chaos Marine faction and he is a spellslinger armed with powerful staffs and psychicly charged blades.
In essence, he's the black mage of the party; casting powerful spells that can decimate opponents but can have trouble keeping his own in a close quarters combat. His starting gear alone makes him capable of summoning clone units of enemies called Doppelgangers and short range spells that can kill off any enemies that get too close. As he earns more gear, he is offered the ability to sacrifice physical longevity for more powerful and destructive spells, the ability to make his clones more powerful or he can trade everything to turn himself into a powerful combat unit, lacking spells but capable of doing far more than holding his own in a fight. The Narcissism trait takes away his Doppelganger ability but passes all bonuses his Doppelgangers would receive onto him, granting him health, energy and combat damage.
Stat-wise, the Chaos Sorcerer starts out similar to a Space Marine Captain; average health and energy but lower combat and ranged damaged. Level 1 gear bumps his energy and energy regeneration rate higher so that he can sling more spells. Mid-range gear gives him more powerful Doppelganger units and longer-range spells. Towards his higher levels he's gifted with superior combat gear to support his Narcissistic trait and the ability to teleport long distances, helping increase his longevity.
