On the 5th of May I was sent to my wonderful home city of London to get a hands-on preview of Black Light: Tango Down - a first person shooter set for release this Summer. Black Light: Tango Down is set roughly 25 years in the future and the producer, Zombie Studios, appears to be both imaginative and intuitive with their interpretation of 'Science-fact'. If this is the first you're hearing of the game then you're probably thinking what the hell is science-fact?

Well, science-fact is the idea of looking at the future and not instantly associating it with laser pistols and evil cyborgs; it is looking at the future from a more realistic and believable perspective.

Black Light: Tango Down offers some refreshing renditions of standard FPS accessories. First up we have a localized EMP grenade (flash-bang 2.0) which actually causes your visor and electronics to shut down and BSOD (blue screen of death). You're incapacitated for the time up to the rebooting of your system - which is comparable to the incapacitation time from a flash-bang grenade in Modern Warfare 2. The second is a visual distortion grenade (smoke 2.0). If you walk through its field then you will experience heavy distortion and it will be pretty impossible to shoot clearly through it.

HRV or hyper-reality vision is like a futuristic Global Positioning System (GPS) that shows you the movements of enemy players in real-time for its duration. It is balanced in a number of ways. Firstly, you cannot attack while you are using the HRV system, which means you have to try and use it tactically. Secondly, HRV has a cool down timer and you can't re-use it until it has reached its full charge. Thirdly, if everyone in the game uses it properly it helps keep the game at a fast pace and negates any reason to find a dark corner to camp from.
