TV Spotlight: Fringe
This is the fifth part of 14. Everyday for the next 2 weeks we’ll be looking at a new show to air this winter season. Returning lets you know when the first episode of this year will air. It might vary in your region, and will probably repeat. What it’s about gives a brief synopsis. Use that to decide if you should read on. Current season lets you know how much you’ve missed if you haven’t been watching. What’s happened so far is a spoilerific in detail summary for those looking to jump on board. Don’t read it if you want to watch the show from the beginning. Why you should be watching lets you know what I think. And finally the Final verdict tells you whether I think you should watch.

Fringe
Returning: January 21st 2010
What it’s about: Fringe has been touted as a modern day X-files. It follows FBI agent Olivia Dunham who works with a crazy old scientist named Walter Bishop to solve bizarre cases. Whats interesting is the attempt to make all the weird things seem scientifically possible.
Current Season: Midway through season 2
What’s happened so far: Olivia Dunham has been tracking weird anomalies for a while now, solving scary cases of grisly death. Walter Bishop (John Noble of Lord of the Rings fame) has been assisting her, after spending 17 years in an insane asylum. He used to conduct weird experiments with his old colleague William Bell (Played by Leonard Nimoy, but rarely seen). His son, Peter Bishop (Played by Joshua Jackson…the stars in this show) looks after him now, and together they have uncovered a crazy conspiracy.
The overall story of the show, as far as I can tell, is about a secret war about to be unleashed between parallel universes. Olivia met Lenard Nimoy…err William Bell, in one such parallel universe where he explained to her if a door was opened, horrible things would happen to our world. More of the secret continues to be slowly revealed, some involving Olivia being psychic, and others about Peter possibly having died and he was really his other self from a parallel world. Maybe. In theory.
