Following the death of his parents, Iraq Veteran Ty Hackett joins Eagle Shield Security, an armored truck company that his father had worked for. Mike, Ty's Godfather and also a member of Eagle Shield, convinces him to join the other armored truck workers in faking a hijacking of one of their own vehicles, and making away with over $42 million in cash. Of course Ty is reluctant, but Mike convinces him with promises that the plan with be completely foolproof and that no one will get hurt.

Review:

Armored is definitely what I would consider a guy movie. The plot is thin, but boy there's a ton of thrill. If you like explosions, burning money, and giant gaping gunshot wounds, this movie is definitely for you. The movie sports a pretty good cast, consisting of Matt Dillon playing the role of Mike, Columbus Short as Ty, and including other known names such as Laurence Fishburne as Mike's knuckleheaded brother-in-law and Jean Reno, better known for the movie Léon: The Professional.

Although I'm not terribly familiar with director Nimród Antal, he does a pretty swank job of taking an otherwise mediocre premise and turning it into a nailbiter. The true colors of the movie come from the drama and suspense created by the actors. Ty is facing the notion that the bank will come and take his home away as well as the pressures of child welfare threatening to take his baby brother from him. He has mounting debt, and although he's working as many shifts as is available to him, it's not enough.

Matt Dillon's character plays the devil's advocate here, tempting Ty into going along with the plan by preying on Ty's already hard life. He employs the use of Ty's service in the military as an excuse for him to deserve a little compensation. In this case, stealing $42 million from their own truck and setting it up as a robbery.
