Review:
Punk Goes Pop Volume 3

Its that time of year everyone, where countless punk groups join together to imitate the work of other artists and tweak it to their style. Now, most of the time this will turn out to be amazing (Punk Goes Classic Rock) or the result will be nothing but a bore (Punk Goes 80s), and this year they’ve already released their Classic Rock album in the Spring, so now here’s hoping that energy stays for the newest installment Punk Goes Pop Volume 3.
Before diving straight into this new cover extravaganza, lets keep in mind that the two original Punk goes Pop albums were amazing to put it simply. The covers seemed unique from the song they were based off of and it also felt like a punk album, which explains why there were two additional volumes made off of the first Punk Goes Pop. Surely with artists such as Mayday Parade, Cute Is What We Aim For, and We Came As Romans? Yeah, a lot of newcomers (at least to me personally) this time around but we can only hope that this will be good for the album as we dive into some of the main songs.

Bad Romance (Artist vs. Poet) -
Now I’m a fan of Lady Gaga and I enjoy hearing covers of her songs, but it saddens me to say that there are very few good covers of her work especially the song “Bad Romance” in particular. I haven’t heard of Artist vs. Poet before so I can’t compare this based on their other work because I’m assuming that’s what they based the cover off of, but as a “Punk” cover it doesn’t even come close to what I should be hearing. It feels as though they were just having a jam session and messing with a few electronic effects rather than making a creative cover. If you’re looking for a good Punk cover of "Bad Romance' then I would suggest staying away from whoever Artist vs Poet claims to be (because they’re certainly not Punk) and possibly checking out A Smile From the Trenches cover of the same song.
