Kick Ass is Kick Ass (Surprised?)

Comic book films have really changed over the past decade. Movies based on books have a tendancy to be awful, with some minor exceptions, and comic book movies were completely out of the question. After X-Men came out, everything changed. Comic book movies became a big deal, and we started seeing more and more of them. Some were better than others, but lately...they’ve all been pretty good.

Along comes Kick Ass. The comic book was actually surprisingly new, and it hit on a fantastic idea that director Matthew Vaughn quickly wanted to explore. What if a normal teenager decided to put on a costume and fight crime. Would he kick ass, or get his ass kicked? Well, watching the movie you can expect a little bit of both.

The movie is fantastic. I’m gonna just go out and say it, it's very entertaining, keeps you involved, and has the perfect balance of comedy, action, drama, brutal violence, and just moments that make you say “Oh shit.”

Aaron Johnson as Kick Ass did a pretty decent job, but the award for best acting has to go to Chloe Moretz as Hit-Girl. She was phenomenal; every scene she was in was just fantastic. Every line was said with more gusto and real emotion then many of the much older cast. At 13 years old, she deserves an Oscar for an amazing performance. Go to the theatres to see her, and you won’t be disappointed. She’ll make you laugh, and cheer, and maybe even shed a tear (I’m a poet and I didn’t know it).

Nicholas Cage was alright as her father, though he did seem to overact at times. Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Mclovin WOOT WOOT) was probably the biggest disappointment as Red Mist. Not that he played his character poorly, but the development of Red Mist was probably the weakest in the film.

After seeing the movie, I read the comic, and I must say I found the movie to be much better. It tells the same story as the comic, but really embellishes things, and the changes it does make, including the origins of Hit Girl and Big Daddy, really are for the best. Relationships between characters are strengthened, and the movie is just a lot more fun.

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, Kick Ass is good. You should probably go see it. If you feel like watching a guy dress up, and get his ass kicked, you’ll love it. If you want to see a little girl kick more ass than Sylvester Stallone in Rambo, you’ll love it. If you want to see the nerdy guy get the hot girl, there’s some of that too. If you want to see some brutal, gruesome action, you’re in for a treat. I really can’t see anyone watching this movie and not enjoying themselves. You’d have to hate fun, and nobody likes someone who hates fun. So you’d better see this movie...and like it.

i went to see kickass and the reason everything was exaggerated was simply because it was a tarentino film i agree however the best character in that movie was hit-girl i couldnt stop laughing when her and big daddy were testing the kevlar vests. but i believe the reason for the lack role development of redmist is simply because the have set it up to make a sequel where redmist becomes the super villian seeking vengance for his father
