Dungeons & Dragons - The Movie (Part 3)
(Please refer to part 1 and part 2 of this review before continuing)
They come upon Damodar’s base of operations, and Snails and Ridley scale the wall while Norda, Elwood, and her troops watch from behind a hill. Elwood moves to go help, but Norda tells him that this is “something they must do alone”.
Snails and Ridley split up once they get into the castle proper (but not without seeing brief glimpses of Crimson Brigade soldiers and of a purple Beholder, who seems to be working with them) – Snails to find the scroll, and Ridley to find Marina. Snails moves into Damodar’s room, proceeds to dally about stealing random items (including a bag of random magical sparkles), checks out Damodar’s bed, and then sees the scroll he must retrieve, before stepping into a rug that turns to quicksand. Damodar then finds Snails, pulls him out, beats him up a little, and then Snails runs off – with the scroll.
Ridley, in the meantime, cuts straight to the chase, saves Marina (there are no guards, no traps, just a door to open), and then escapes. He fights a pair of guards (wow, he’s got fighting skills!) while Marina wrings her hands, and then gets beaten up by this captain guy, whom he eventually is able to dispatch with Marina’s help (she clubs him with a stick in the head).
Why must they do it alone? I don’t quite get it, unless she’s saying that Elwood and the rest of her troops (and herself) are unable to be stealthy. But she’s definitely sneakier than Snails, who proceeds to steal things, make noises, and bump his head into doorways. Marina also seems to be unable to cast spells – I suppose she’s out of spell components, although it would have been nice if she had said something like: “I can’t cast anything, I don’t have any spell components!”
We then cut to Snails and his “fight” with Damodar. He simply isn’t up to the task and Damodar has him in a choke hold when Ridley comes up. Damodar demands the Eye from Ridley, and Ridley is prepared to give it – but Snails tosses him the scroll instead, and Damodar kills Snails – then tosses him off the castle wall. Ridley is enraged and attacks Damodar futilely, and Damodar stabs him in the shoulder through the chest; demanding the Eye for a quick death. Marina, forgotten for the moment, grabs the bag of “sparkles” that Snails dropped on the ground, and uses it to cast some sort of giant electric ball at Damodar which throws him to the ground. She then casts a teleport spell and she and Ridley escape.
