2012: The Legendary Journeys of John Cusack

The world is going to end in the year 2012. This is basically a commonly known fact and anyone with any sense is already preparing for their inevitable end. With that year being only a couple years away, I’ve come to realize I don’t have as much time as I thought to do all the things I want to do in life. Publish a novel, meet Joss Whedon, or even sleep with a girl. This movie won’t help you with any of your goals, nor will it teach you how to survive Armageddon, except that teaming with John Cusack might be a good bet.

Basically the premise of this movie is based on the end of the Mayan calendar, and how people believe it spells the end of the world. I’ve been reading up on all the theories, and surprisingly there is some real science in here. On that day in 2012, there will be an alignment in our solar system between us, the sun, and the center of the galaxy. Also, there has been numerous times in the life of this planet, dramatic shifts in our magnetic poles. Whether it’ll be as dramatic as all this, remains to be seen.

But it’s the dramatics that make this movie so much fun. With huge cities crumbling apart, and Hawaii submerged in Lava, the visuals in this movie are like nothing you’ve ever seen before. There’s seriously an explosion in this movie, from a volcano, that is bigger than any explosion ever seen on camera. The special effects and circumstances in this movie are huge. Mind boggling.

And totally unsurvivable. This movie is a laugh, as its cast of characters such as Amanda Peet and the invincible John Cusack make it out of one outrageous situation into another. And all without any actual skill. All you can really learn from them is that it pays to be extremely and impossibly lucky. So get in all the good Karma you can, because when 2012 comes a knockin', you’re going to need to cash in.

No matter how impossible this movie will seem, and the word ridiculous will cross your mind over and over again, I personally felt I was laughing with the movie, and not against it. The way the movie jumps from blown out over the top disaster footage to the laughably fake expressions on the characters faces as they pretend to be scared for their lives (And fail), it’s almost as if the movie is trying to be funny and make you laugh. And as long as you accept that, it succeeds brilliantly.

You're way too generous. The film sucked from beginning to end. My cat could've written a better script.
