World of Warcraft Patch 3.3 Gone Live
The latest patch for World of Warcraft (WoW) has gone live and you should be getting a familiar prompt that it is being downloaded the next time you start up WoW on your computer.
Some notable changes to the game include:
1.) The chance to finally take the battle to the Lich King himself via four new dungeons. One dungeon, The Frozen Halls, is a five-man level dungeon where you get to face minions of the Lich King as you travel with a hero of your faction (Jaina Proudmoore for the Alliance or Sylvanas Windrunner for the Horde). Another, The Frozen Throne, is a ten/twenty-five-man raid level dungeon and gives you the chance to fight, in the end, the Lich King himself.
2.) Sever empty or you can’t find anyone to group with to complete a specific dungeon? Now you can use a “Dungeon Finder” which pairs you up with players from servers within your WoW Battlegroup. While this option is only for finding groups to complete five-man level dungeons and not raid level dungeons, it is still a welcomed application for those finding it harder to get groups together as people lose interest in lower level dungeons. Personally, I have had a difficult time finding groups to help improve the gear of my non-main characters due to the lack of traffic on my server, and I hope to do this and finally complete some dungeon-based quests that my alternates have been stockpiling.
3.) Now your map doubles as a quest tracker. I got to see this in action as I logged on for the first time after downloading the patch and it is awesome! It shows exactly where you need to go in order to complete a quest along with other important pieces of information (ex. what you need to kill or what you need to collect). Since I primarily only have dailies, the map showed a circle over each spot on the map with a number corresponding to the quest that requires me to go to that area. While modifications have been made by other players before now to help track quests, it is nice to see Blizzard acknowledging that this feature should be a part of the game itself, and not something to be created solely by non-Blizzard programmers. In fact, a lot of items in WoW were originally ideas and programs made by players of WoW.
