User Blog: World of Warcraft: My History, Being Hacked and the Icecrown Patch

First up, my name is Matt Reynolds. I play an undead priest named Vasimus on Suramar. And I'm an addict. An addict that's constantly burnt out on his drug of choice--but can still not get enough.

I've been on WOW burnout for probably two years now. But as all of us who've played Warcraft for so long, that addiction is hard to break. Over the past year I've quit probably 5 or 10 times and always come back--out of sheer boredom or the next cool looking patch. I think I lasted a whole year once. Before we start, a little of my WOW background.

I started WOW a few months after its initial release, my friends got me into it. I was very skeptical, especially about playing with other people because as a general rule, I hate everyone. But they got me into it and that evil thing call MMOs latched on to me and hasn't let go since. I messed around for a few months on it, having no idea what I was doing or how to play or what the "rules" were in playing with other people in groups. I was a complete mess in instances. I got 4 or 5 characters to 20 before starting something else. Finally, my warrior stuck and I was actually able to get him to 60. That was when I really got serious about the game, learned how to play, learned how to tank and really had a blast. I still look back on the glory days, when running instances like Scholomance, Stratholme and UBRS was so much fun. They don't make instance like those anymore (ha! I sound like an old man--in my day we had to CC our instance, you were kicked if you even thought of AOEing every mob!)

From there I went on to play a Warlock and played him through all of BC. I'd given up on instances then, I always felt the Burning Crusade instances were horrible. Then began my unending PVP grind and then onto the Arenas, which were so much fun at first--before they became the horrible mess they are now. When it didn't matter so much on your comps, on the class you play, it was a bit more based on your skill. Of course this is coming from a Warlock, the second most despised PVP class of that time followed by of course Rogues which I still loathe. Season 1 and the beginning of season 2 arena were great. I mainly did 2s with a paladin or mage partner. I think the most fun was the lock/ice mage combo. I'd max out my resilience (which I've grown to hate over any other stat possible) and let them beat on me while my mage partner blew them away. And considering our comp and that we were drunk as all hell while we played, we did pretty good--got to 1800. But the end of Season 2 and onto Season 3 killed arena for me, it got so frustrating it killed the whole game for me. That was when I quit for a very long time.
