Article: S.U.N. Online is HOT!

Launched in Korea by the gaming company Webzen in November 2006, the Soul of the Ultimate Nation (S.U.N.) Online, which is now being played in Taiwan, China, Japan, the United States, Europe, Australia, and Singapore (just to name a few), is hotter than ever, and is just getting better and better

Hello guys, The Ronin here once again! Forgive my absence for the past two to three weeks as I have been playing hard (and enjoying every moment of it) what I consider the best free-to-play (F2P) MMORPG I have ever played. S.U.N. Online, Webzen’s fantasy-based MMORPG, is in a way a bit similar to MU in concept. From the characters (in both games, I play a knight: Dark Knight in MU and Dragon Knight in S.U.N) to the items (weapons and armors and set armors) as well as in crafting items and the leveling up of items (“Enchanting” in the S.U.N. world). However, the similarities end at that. For me, S.U.N. Online is much, much better; and most importantly, it is free-to-play!

“Stand-out” details

Let’s go to some of the details of the game (Please note: I have just been playing the game for barely a month, so please send me a note or in the Comments section below, please write your inputs if you think I missed something out or my interpretation is somehow incorrect.) which I consider superior to its “sister game” MU. First are the graphics. S.U.N. Online’s environment is really smooth, and the character movements, particularly during battles with bosses or mob captains, are really impressive.

Next, one of the coolest things about S.U.N. Online is that you are free to create what you would like your hero to become. (Note: For this post, I will touch on the Dragon Knights first, as it is my first ever character in the game.) For instance, every DK will start the same—with the same base stats for Strength, Vitality, Intelligence, Spirit, Agility. However, one really good feature for any character is its “Skill Proficiency”. Dragon Knights, for instance, have a Combat Skill Proficiency and Dragonic Skill Proficiency. A Combat DK is good for Player-vs-Player events; while a Dragonic DK (I know it sounds absurd: Dragonic Dragon Knight) transforms into a Dragon (descendant of the Dragonkin) and is pretty tough on quests and boss hunts. Apart from that, a Combat DK can be Strength-type, or Agility-type (Dragonic DK can be Strength-type). Everything will be according to what you prefer, and would like to try and develop. One good thing about this is that, you have five chances of resetting your skills before you reach Level 40—so as to give you a “feel” of what it will be like to try different stat builds. After Level 40, whatever stat you have decided on will be the one you will get stuck with, so I suggest first time players to don’t be afraid using the five chances to try every possible build.

Hi Drunkenlo,

Apparently WEBZEN experienced a DDOS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks, that's why most of us can't log in to their servers, much more access the website.
This has been resolved now, and the SUN Support Team will be giving us compensation in terms of items and maybe EXP pots (accdg to one forum post) or reset scrolls. Those who spent cash for items in Cash Shops will likewise be compensated, according to them.
Anyway, good gaming!

What's been going on with webzen lately? Any news on what they've been up to? They have been going up and down for quite some time now. At first I thought it was just maintenance. I was playing my elem and got it from 20-26 in less than an hour. Then I got dc'ed. Didn't get to access sun for a good 12+hrs. Then the site was up again. Didn't play but then the next time I checked it was down again. Rawr. I miss my elem.

Fantastic article!!! I've been playing SUN for almost a month now and it is really a cool game for me. The only frustration I have is that Webzen does not provide friendly information on the basic details of how you play the game. Probably because of the language barrier from the creators to the gamers. No offense meant to Koreans out there. I love playing SUN and hope that the game will expand and remain FREE-TO-PLAY.
