Star Trek Online: Opening Tutorial Preview

After creating your Star Trek Online character, the opening tutorial begins. This tutorial is designed to take you through six controllable and interactive environments in Star Trek Online: on-ship controls and basic combat, away mission aboard another ship, solo space navigation and combat practice, combat against hostile targets, on-site away mission and a battle group scenario.

In the Star Trek Online tutorial, Zachary Quinto (Spock from the latest Star Trek film) provides instruction on basic controls through all six environments. Story-based information is provided separately in an in-game context.

On-ship Controls and Basic Combat
The first phase begins on your own ship. In it, you learn how to use basic walking controls, receive communication from commanding officers and other ships, use the turbolift to move from deck to deck and interact with computers and other officers via comm and in person.

Away Mission Aboard U.S.S. Khitomer
The tutorial immediately thrusts your character and his or her comrades into battle with the Borg. As you begin, your captain orders you to proceed on an away mission alone to assist the U.S.S. Khitomer—and it’s been boarded. Once there, you assist an EMH (emergency medical hologram), learning to use a medical tricorder. You’re instructed to battle some malfunctioning Borg in close combat using your phaser and personal shield and utilize the transporter tactically. The narrator also informs you that each weapon has one standard and one or more special attack.

Solo Space Navigation and Combat Practice
Once the Khitomer is secured, you are ordered to return to your ship and assist in transporting survivors to safety. You may also select an additional crew member to come with you. At this time, Mr. Quinto clearly explains the basic navigational controls of the ship. When the survivors are safe, a commanding officer delivers your next task: disable some probes. These light targets offer the opportunity for combat practice.
