Pretentious Patching?
Date: 9 Dec 2009
Okay, so patch 3.3 went live in World of Warcraft on the 8th of December. Coupled with this patch is a trailer with orchestral music and voice acting. I noticed that two major gaming websites (Destructoid and Kotaku), seem to feel it is stupid that Blizzard make such a fuss about what is essentially, just a small addition to the game.Am I missing something here?
I don't think there is anything wrong with Blizzard showing off their new content, making it known that there is something else to experience in their MMO.
As a long term player of the game, I know that when it was first released players were forced to read walls of text if they wanted to get clued up on the story behind who they are firing their fireballs at today.
It is nice to see that the Blizzard developers have seen this key fault and are making an effort to correct it in Wrath of the Lich King (all be it quite late).
Most people would agree that World of Warcraft has been opened up wide to new players, with many of the later content being a lot easier for people to access and experience, this patch just further improves on that direction Blizzard are taking.
Indirect help is not the only form new players will be receiving in this patch, real first-timers have had their tool-tips improved, and quest tracking as a part of the map.
Do you think making a patch feel more 'epic' is any real problem?
