New MMO convention on the horizon?
Date: 10 Dec 2009
Have you ever wanted to go to an MMO con, meet the people you’ve been playing with for years, but found you couldn’t because the MMO you play isn’t WOW? I’ve never had that problem because I’m not a minority like you, but if you DO have that problem, you need worry no longer. There is a solution. The Looking for Group convention strives to “provide the ultimate experience for all MMO and VW fans to some and see what’s new in the world of MMOs as well as meet friends across all games” so it says on their site.
They also boast having at the convention:
- Developer Sessions
- Special VIP attendee events
- Game competitions
- Private screenings
- Guild meetings
- And more (:O)
What games will be specifically represented at this convention remains to be seen, though it sounds like they want to put an emphasis on both interacting with people playing MMOs, as well as introducing new fans to games in the genre.
The convention will be run by Last Straw productions, an indie games company perhaps trying to spread into new market. They’re well known for their Microsoft XNA game Simian Escape. At least they’ve gotta be well known by someone.
Though the website doesn’t list a date for the event, Kotaku reported the first annual convention is to be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 25th to 27th. The website didn’t have a lot of info at all actually, as many of the links aren’t yet working. I imagine more will be revealed as time goes by, as well registration should open up sometime next year.
