My Search for the Best Free-to-Play MMORPG

For the past several days, I’ve been checking and trying out free-to-play (F2P) massive multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs), as well as finding some games offering beta tests. (Also the reason why I haven’t updated my Warcraft DotA Hero Guides series and Movie Remakes series for a while now.) There are quite a few games on my lineup actually, but trying and playing these games out is sometimes time-consuming (one of the very important factors I consider when playing and choosing a good game); that is why for this article, I will be mentioning just two games (for starters) that I’ve played during the past few days. For the next several weeks, I will be combing the internet for other free-to-play MMORPGs, and will write about everything that I will experience in playing the games that I will find.

All the while I am also thinking of the value of playing free MMORPGs, and at the same time, pondering what game developers could get out of making and publishing these games. Do you prefer F2P over the pay-to-play games, or is it the other way around? Do you think F2P will somehow eat into the pay-to-play market, or will the latter edge out F2P games? Read on.

The Gates of Andaron

Without further ado, let’s get down to some of the free MMORPGs I’ve been playing so far. Of course, one is Altis Gates. Here is my review of the game. The Closed Beta test for AG has already ended, and right now, I believe most fans and players (including me actually) are waiting for the Open Beta of the game.

Another game I’ve been playing for the past several days now is the Gates of Andaron. The free-to-play MMORPG is a fantasy story composed of two factions—the kingdoms of Valorian and the Derion—fighting endlessly in the world of Iberia. The Valorians are characterized by their strong military power, sustained by an independent agriculture and impressive metallurgy industry. This faction has integrated weapons and battle tactics. The Derions, meanwhile, are characterized by magic and alchemy.
