Review: Fallen Earth Mobile App: Breakthrough or More of the Same?

I recently had the chance to review the Fallen Earth Mobile App and see how it interacts with the game itself. I tested it using my Motorola Droid (running 2.1 firmware), and I was very interested at trying out some of the unique features that are available with this game, especially since Icarus Studios designed the servers for live content access. This app is available for most of the smartphones (Droid and iPhone, with Blackberry coming soon) for $1.99 ($2.99 for Blackberry)

I will note that there is an update coming up in July that is going to add significant functionality, and for that reason I will be reviewing what is currently implemented, as well as what is to come.

Current Implementation:

There are four different sections you can access in the app - Character, Comm, Crafting, and Auctions.

The Character section let's you view every aspect of your toon. Not only can you check your character stats and equipment, but you can also check your current inventory and your chips as well. While checking your character remotely may be nothing new in the MMO world, I must say I like the idea of checking your current inventory, especially the way it synergizes with some of the future functions.

The Comm section is probably the most intriguing part of the app to date. Not only can you check your mail, but you can actually communicate with friends and clan members currently playing the game. This is huge for players who are part of a large clan that don't know each other in real life. Now you can keep in touch with your in-game friends without the hassle of giving out your cell phone number to a bunch of people you don't actually know. I could see this being a big deal, especially for clan leaders.
