Allods Online - First Impressions

A friend decided to show me their Allods Online character a week ago. I had no previous experience with Allods Online, but saw what to me could only be described as an Inquisitorial-Commasariat-Knight-Of-Justice. I was shown a few of the other character races and classes and had a quick glance-over of the fluff behind Allods Online and I was instantly intrigued. I couldn't think of a genre to pin it to, so I settled on "High Science Fiction (HiSciFi)".
So I headed home and googled Allods to look for it's website. I was happy to see that it was a gPotato game. For those of you not in the know:
gPotato are well known for making free-to-play/subscriptionless MMOs, the only 'catch' being that there are in-game items that require micropayments to acquire. Generally, if you want the best gear at high levels then you do have to pay for these items so you can play competitively.
I was happy because I'd set aside money for a month long subscription which could now go towards something more productive. I logged into my gPotato account and hit the "Download Allods Online" button, expecting a 3-4GB file + extractor etc., but instead only a 2.5GB file which would install to a 4GB file, which was far easier on my router. All the appropriate files were downloaded within 3 hours and the game installed with 10 minutes. Everything updated pretty quickly and I was good to go.
I logged in using my gPotato account and made my first character on the ISA server. Greeted with an awesome piece of artwork depicting the various races and classes locked in a two way battle, symbolising the two factions at war, I selected the Avenger class and went straight to the character creation screen. Character creation seemed simple and generic; pick a pre-set size and design for facial features, hair, skin and hair colour and height. Nothing I didn't expect from a beta, so I put it behind me and generated my character; a Xadaganian Avenger.
