Yet another small week for new comic releaes.  I was able to find two that I really liked and one not so much.

New Avengers #1

The final of the main Heroic Age Avengers books hits this week with New Avengers #1. This is by far my favorite of all the team line ups which include team leader Luke Cage, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Ms Marvel, Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Iron Fist, The Thing, Jessica Jones and Victoria Hand (who will act as the liaison between the New Avengers and Steve Rogers). First off, for me these team members have the most personality of all the Avengers, they are more real-life characters, and are more relatable than say Thor or Tony Stark. It's especially nice to see the Thing involved as he's the only Fantastic Four member that I really like. Plus we have Victoria Hand, former second in command to Norman Osborn and the only really cool thing to come out of Dark Reign. I loved her in Dark Avengers so I'm quite happy Bendis brings her along here.

There's some great humor here (Wolverine talking about how many teams he's on), Bendis writes a solid comic that's fun to read and not overly wordy-Bendis. Stuart Immomen's art is great, he's definitely the best of all the new Avengers artists and he's the best at making the character seem actually human--he's fantastic at facial expressions and portraying emotions.

After getting the team set up, the rest of the story revolves around Dr. Strange, Hellstorm and Brother Voodoo and sets up the antagonist of the first storyline. I hope they keep either Stephen Strange or Brother Voodoo around for this team, I like a mystical character on the team roaster.

Crossed Family Values #2

David Lapham's take on the Crossed out break continues. If you're reading this title for the horror, for the violence and disgust then you'll love this. However if you're looking for someone to root for, there are none. With Garth Ennis' run on the Crossed, I cared about the survivors, I wanted them to live. Unfortunately, I find none in Lapham's group. Addy's pretty much the only one to like and even her I care not for. With a series so dark, depressing and graphic I need someone to root for, someone to care for but so far I'm hoping the Crossed wipe them all out. I do have to say that Javier Barreno's art is much better this issue. I literally thought they had a different artist on this book when I first opened it up.

Shouldn't it be called the New New Avengers?
