Date: 30 Apr 2009
The ConQuest is an event where 4000 players and 1000 non-player characters (NPCs) meet each August in order to fill the mystic continent Mythodea with life. They have to prove wits, fighting and social skills to solve 1000 plots, puzzles and adventures which influence Mythodea’s fate in one way or another.Have you ever imagined going to a battle like a medieval knight or to be a fair lady who is wooed by brave warriors?
Then Live Adventure is your hobby! Here you can experience all the things you imagined!
With the help of backdrops, effects, masks and many supernumeraries, our team turns a place in the middle of Germany into a fantasy world that you can discover for one weekend!
Meet fascinating characters, celebrate at the medieval taverns or practice your swordfighting skills and leave all your worries far behind you for one weekend!
The ConQuest 2009 is a self-catering Live Adventure Role Playing Game from the 5th to 9th of August 2009.
You may pitch on the first day (5th of August / Wednesday) and start any of the camp and ambience gamer but most of the adventures and stories won't start before noon on the second day - as last year - right after the GameMaster's welcome.
Premises
In order to play a medieval role, of course you need medieval clothing. Beginners often just wear simple cloaks, dresses or chemises which do not cost more than 30-40€ if you sew them yourself.
Depending on the role you want to play, you can use weapons, scriptrolls, armour, trinkets or other things – there are no limits! But please do not wear modern watches, cellphones or even bright coloured t-shirts, jeans and sneakers - this will disturb the medieval ambiance. This rule ensures that all participants really can relax and plunge into a new world for a few days.
If you do not really know which role you would like to play, just visit the pages of the different camps of Mythodea – or ask more experienced players in our forum.
Accomodation
Accommodation will be in tents which have to be brought along by the participants and should be as consistent with the ambiance as possible. Those who do not have suitable tents may use a modern one, camouflaged by sheets or nets. It might be a good idea to get advice from experienced players at our forum! We are afraid that we will not be able to offer accommodation in community tents but our experience is that community tents can also be organized in the forum. If you have no idea where to sleep, just have a look there!
Food and drink
All players and NPCs need to cater for themselves. As the location is supposed to be a feedlot after the conquest, you´re only allowed to start a fire in specially marked areas or with the permission of a GameMaster in pans you brought along yourselves. Please note that fire is only allowed in sufficient distance to trees and bushes. We will try to provide enough fire wood, News concerning this issue will be made available during the year in our forum. Charcoal or suchlike has to be brought by the participants.
Additionally you may find something to eat and drink at the wide variety of medieval and exotic taverns or at one of the numerous booths in our InGame town. But our town offers even more: A large number of traders for everything a knight's or bard's heart could desire: From armour over chalices to any kind of every-day trumpery! Just have a stroll there!
Sanitation
During the event there will be sufficient showers and toilets, which will be cleaned regularly. In addition, there will be porta-johns/portable toilets. But – like on any other festival – there could be long cues at different peak times. Don’t forget to bring your own toilet paper since non will be provided.
Terrain
Since every year we play on the gorgeous and spacious manor Brokeloh – 50 km west of Hannover. The 60 hectare terrain has been owned by the Niemeyer family for more than 400 years. Although it is 100% LARP-suitable it had never been used for LARP until ConQuest 2004.
You can look forward to enjoying a true living piece of Mythodea in the middle of Lower Saxony.
And so it began......
Date: 26 Jan 2012
Dawn breaks, war looms, the evil Lord is gathering his armies to wage a campaign of destruction upon the free peoples of the world. It is up to I, Sir Maximilan Pegasus to stop him, with my trusted band of adventurers we must gather the enchanted sword of Tek, the Shield of Way-Lem and the amulet of Subsidence and together we shall slay this abomination! “TIME FREEZE” And bam, the fantasy world fades away, the enchanted sword of Tek in my hand is a rubber sword smothered in coloured ribbons with a laminated card cable tied to the hilt, I look down and I’m wearing plastic armour and unflattering heropants, and the magical world of my imagination washes away to reveal a field in Wigan, but you know what? It’s larp and I’m a larper, it’s what I do.
I started larping when I was 17, I’d never role-played before, I’d never played D&D or Warhammer, never played WoW or any form of online game, I’d never even read Lord of the Rings, I feel somewhat privileged that I hadn’t done any of those things, I think it gave me an untainted attitude towards what larp could be, I had no preconceptions about saving the maiden fair, slaying the dragon or smiting the liche, to me it was just a new thing to try.
It was cold, really cold, 10am on a September morning, the rain was battering down and I’d been given a faux fur tunic, a mouldy old sword and been pointed towards a man and told, “You’re monstering, there’s the ref he’ll tell you what to do.” I obeyed, I played wave after wave of zombies, orcs and various line monsters and to be honest, was cold, bored and hungry. That is, until lunchtime, the teams switched sides, I got into the kit I’d scrounged up, as with most first timers, a black trenchcoat. I took the mouldy old sword, stood with my fellow adventurers and it hit me, I’m a god damn hero!
Pow, there it was, a new larper was born.
