GenCon Indy: Full Overview

Greetings fellow readers, as you may or may not know this weekend I took a trip to what is known by many as the greatest table-top gaming convention out there. The convention itself takes place in America at the Indiana Convention Center. To start off with, this is my fifth consecutive year going and I only went on saturday so I didn’t get to see any celebrity appearances such as Will Wheaton. But I did my fair share of demoing games, searching the booths, and of course...viewing the cosplayers.

The first thing I did as I have with every year was enter the exhibit hall to see what was new this year. The booth up front was a booth called “Geek Chic” which featured furniture for the everyday gamer, such as coffee tables indented with a grid below for D&D Players. I’ll have more on that though in another review (such as with most of the games I saw). After that, I continued my journey down the exhibit hall to see what was new with the Privateer Press booth. There was nothing new sadly except for Monsterpocalypse: Big in Japan and the Voltron game. A few rows down, I saw the Steve Jackson Games booth, popular for their card game Munchkin. This may bring up a shock to all of you readers out there, but this was actually my first time demoing and then playing this amazing game, and I’m so glad I found it. After seeing how great Munchkin was, I turned to demo a few other games in the Steve Jackson games booth such as Zombie Dice and The Stars Are Right, both which I will have full demos on later. Twilight Creations displayed their new Vampire game “Forever Young”, which actually looked quite good from what I’ve seen, sadly I didn’t have time to get a proper demo though. Unfortunately though, I found out about a new card game based on Resident Evil being made by Bandai with an interesting new concept to the Trading Card Game world. The Wizkids booth was actually making huge comeback with a new Heroclix release based on Watchmen and a Star Trek game that looked interesting, didn’t get to demo that though. Also, if you haven’t heard yet, WizKids is releasing a new Halo Actionclix set based on the new Halo game coming out this September, Reach. I finally proud to say, with all these new releases that the board/card gaming industry is looking better than ever.

It wasn't a clix game, it looked a lot like the Star Wars customizable ship game except that the pieces were plastic rather than customizable. From what they had there, it looked like it was still in the early stages due to the figures being mono-colored, but I'll be sure to look into it more once it comes out. I would've demo'd it if it wasn't in the direct center of the convention, it was so crowded there all day.

What was the Star Trek game? Was it a clix game? Or a constructible game like the Wizkids Star Wars game? Did you get any pictures of it?
