MegaCon 2010: A Central Florida Multi-Genre Fandom Convention

MegaCon is a pretty major convention in the central Florida area. It's been around for years, and since 2005 it's been sponsored by Coliseum of Comics. However, despite the comics sponsorship, MegaCon caters to sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and anime fans, as well as comic book fans. I actually attended this convention three or four years in a row (but haven't been for almost as many). MegaCon is a medium to large sized convention, dwarfed by the likes of PAX or Dragon*con, but significantly larger than many of the smaller conventions also existing in the central Florida area.

For 2010, MegaCon is being held March 12th - 14th, 2010 at the Orange County Convention Center Hall D in Orlando, Florida (USA).

MegaCon typically has an impressive guest list, and 2010 is no exception. The guest list for MegaCon 2010 includes: James Hong (The Day the Earth Stood Still), Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek), Lea Thompson (Back to the Future), Claudia Wells (Back to the Future), Ray Park (Star Wars: Episode 1), Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars), Jeremy Bulloch (The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi), Peter Mayhew (Star Wars), Brent Spiner (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Ellen Dubin (Lexx), Levar Burton (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galactica), Frank Cho (artist), Graham Nolan (artist), George Perez (artist), and many many more.

One of the events that affirms MegaCon's dedication to the world of comics is the MegaCon Portfolio Review. Writer and Editor Barbara Randall Kesel will be available to offer "hints and tips" to artists who are looking to develop a comics portfolio. From the organizers: "No appointments will be set: sessions are first come, first served, with preference given to those who have done the best prep work."
