USA Fandom Conventions this Weekend - April 23 - 25, 2010

Looking for something to do this weekend? Believe it or not, almost every weekend there are dozens of fandom conventions occurring all over the world. Some are large corporate-run "official" conventions that may be hard to get into on short notice, and some are tiny fan-run conventions that would probably love to have a few more people show up. Below is a list of some of the conventions happening this weekend in the United States, between April 22 - 25, 2010. (Special thanks to The Convention Finder for the help in creating this list.)

Anime Detour
April 23 - 25, 2010
Sheraton Bloomington Hotel!, Minneapolis, Minnesota

Welcome to Minnesota's very own convention dedicated to anime, manga, and Japanese culture. This is a convention run by fans for fans. They are open to people of all ages and interest related to this "media explosion". The convention has not reached their attendance cap, and are expected to have 400 walk-up registrations available. The cost is $60 cash or check only, no credit cards accepted. Guests include several voice actors, artists, and industry members.

Conestoga
April 23 - 25, 2010
Radisson Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma

This convention features an art show, panels, a writers conference, a dealers room, gaming, a "Fangs Fur & Fey" Mini-Con, a Friday night concert, Filks, a masquerade, a charity auction, and more. Guests of honor include S. M. Stirling, Bob Eggleton, and Leonard Bishop. Weekend tickets are available for $35. A "Golden Ticket" is $55 and includes a gala dinner with S. M. Stirling on Friday and a special signing event.

Days Inn at the Falls, Niagara Falls, New York

This convention features chats with the Guests of Honor, author readings, lectures, panels, games and more. The two guests of honor are Kevin J. Anderson ("Dune" Prequels; "Saga of Seven Suns" Series) and Rebecca Moesta (Little Things; "Young Jedi Knights" Series). Tickets are $40 at the door for the weekend. Single day tickets will be available as well, along with a student discount.
