Convention Fans:
Reminder: National Halloween Convention and The Steampunk World's Fair 2010 Coming Up!
The Convention Fans Blog / Alltern8.com team are preparing for two great upcoming conventions in the month of May!
The first of these events is the The National Halloween and National Haunters Convention. This year the National Halloween and National Haunters Convention is being held April 29 – May 2, 2010 in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania (USA), at the Valley Forge Convention Center.
This unique horror and costuming convention offers classes in costume creation, make-up, special effects, prop building, scenic design, and even "scareology". They will be taught by a staff that totals up hundreds of years of experience in their fields. The convention calls this their "Halloween University". Some of the other events include a make-up war, costume contest, a costume ball, magic shows, storytelling, monster movie trivia, various contests (such as best artwork and short story), panels, and more.
Some of the specific classes being offered are: Makeup Safety 101: Non-Toxic is not Makeup, Haunted Attraction Disasters and Fires in the Modern Era, Codes and Standards: Life Safety 101, Creating a Steam Punk Theme or Haunt!, Intro Class 101 - Building Your Online Presence, Converting Wood Panels to Castle Rock Walls, X-Treme Networking Course for Owner / Operators of Haunted Events and more. Classes range in price from $0 to $130.00.
Tickets for the National Halloween and National Haunters Convention vary in price, depending on which extra events you may want to add. General entry for the weekend is just $25.
The second event we're attending in May is The Steampunk World's Fair: A Three-Day Expedition into Yesterday's Future. It is being held at the Radisson of Piscataway in New Jersey (USA) on May 14th-16th, 2010.
The Steampunk World's Fair offers a great list of vendors, artists, musicians, workshops, panels, and events for those lovers of alternate and speculative history. Some of the events include a "Lazer Sword Continuum Show", a Gentleman’s Duel, The Gaslamp Cabaret, a Victorian Dance Etiquette Workshop, several LARPs, bellydancing, a Steampunk Persona Workshop, a Steampunk Jewelry Workshop, a Tea-Leaf Reading Workshop, and much much more.
