Phoenix Comicon - The Signature Pop Culture Event of the Southwest USA

Phoenix Comicon is an Arizona (USA) convention being held May 27 - 30, 2010 at the Phoenix Convention Center and The Hyatt Regency. It boasts a fantastic guest list, a ton of fun activities (Zombie Beauty Pageant FTW!), and it has a great price.

Speaking of that guest list, it has people from anime, science fiction, comics, film & TV, music, cosplay/costuming, science, and literature. It includes the likes of Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, Colleen Clinkenbeard, Jolene Houser, Mike McFarland, Michael A. Stackpole, Leanna Renee Hieber, James A. Owen, B. Clay Moore, Benjamin Glendenning, Daniel Davis, Eddie Nuñez, J. David Spurlock, Jaina Solo, Tristen Citrine, Aaron Douglas, Gary Lockwood, James Marsters, John Schneider, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Lou Ferrigno, Ray Park, Calabrese (band), Spawn Atomic (band), Kevin R. Grazier, and many more!

Some of the anime panels/events include: "10 Years of Cosplay in the United States," "A directors take on the Anime Industry," "Building an Anime and Manga Art Portfolio," an amv contest, "How To's of AMV Production," a Maid Café, "Manga Drawing with Jolene Houser," and more.

Some of the comics panel/events include: "Adapting Licensed Properties to Comics," "Character Creation & Design," comics trivia, "Creating Custom Toys," "How to Write Horror Comics," "Nuts and Bolts - How a Comic is Made," "Writing for the Young Adult Market," and more.

As for costuming, some of the panel/events include: "Craft-foam Props and Armor," a doll costume contest, a hall costume contest, "Horror Makeup/Special FX Workshop," a Masquerade costume contest, a steampunk fashion show, and my personal favorite event for the whole convention - the Zombie Beauty Pageant.

Other events include a Browncoats: Redemption movie preview, Q&As with guests, a showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, console gaming (including a Guitar Hero Band Battle), a "Brain Eating Contest," performances by various musical artists, "Wil Wheaton Rock Band," a NASA Space Science Update, and more!
