There’s been quite a bit of convention news that’s come out recently. I’ll be highlighting some of the major (and most interesting) stories below. However, if you’re interested in quick updates (like a con’s vendor tables selling out, etc.), then you should follow me on Twitter! I re-tweet all the significant convention news tidbits from various cons across the world.
As always, if you have convention news you’d like to share, send an e-mail to kelly@conventionfansblog.com.
1. First Instant Anime Convention Reports Higher than Expected Attendance (Illinois, USA)
The Anime News Network has a story about Anime-Zap!, an anime convention that was announced less than 72 hours before the convention began. It attracted over 150 anime fans, which was apparently a larger crowd than initially anticipated. It was held January 16-17, 2010 at Illinois Central College. According to the article, the folks that ran the con have not yet determined if they will hold an Anime-Zap! in 2011.
2. Suzaku Festival Cancelled (Ottawa, Canada)
Due to low pre-registration and the lack of relevant and available guests, Suzaku Festival has been cancelled. The organizers have said (via Facebook) that they will be handing out refunds to pre-registrants, Artists Alley participants, and Dealers. Anyone with questions can contact them at: http://suzaku.ca/contact.php
3. Omaha Gets New Conventions and Events (Nebraska, USA)
According to the Omaha Sci Fi Scene blog, Omaha residents are getting some new events/conventions for 2010. They are: ConStellation (a convention), and one-day events called CosParade and OtakuOmaha’s AniRave. The blog also talks of turmoil and turnover at the established cons and events. Head over there for more details.
