100 Cosplay Ideas for Couples

Conventions are almost always more enjoyable when you're attending with a friend or a loved one. And that goes double for cosplay. Couple and group cosplay can be a whole lot of fun. But what if you're struggling to come up with ideas of who to cosplay as? Well, there are a lot of fun character pairs in various movies, television shows, comics and anime series that would work well as couples convention costumes. I've included a list of 100 ideas below, and have broken them down into pair types (male + female, male + male, female + female, and dual gender/gender neutral/transexual) based on the gender of the character. I've also tried to select cosplay ideas with different ages, body types, ethnicities, hair colors, and genres in mind. Of course, you don't have to limit yourself to cosplays that match any of those, including gender. You'll also note that not every pair is romantically connected - this is a list for cosplaying friends and couples. Feel free to add suggestions of your own by posting a comment!

@Kelly

There's no denying there's a severe lack of characters in most fandoms who do not fit the gender binary. And those fandoms that do have a strong trans presence are not extremely popular.

However off the top of my head there's every single character in Simoun.

There's also Ranma from the Ranma 1/2 series, who regularly transforms from male to female and back again.

In ST:TNG there's the entire J'Naii species, who are androgynous. Soren and Riker would be an interesting pair. However the whole point of that episode (The Outcast) is that Soren is female and being denied the right to be female, so it would be a male + female couple there.

There's more I'm sure, but those are the only ones that pop right to mind at the moment, aside from some more obscure films, though I guess Crying Game isn't very obscure, but I can't imagine someone cosplaying Dill.

Probably also worth noting that Dr. Frank-N-Furter from Rocky Horror is actually a trans character, who self identifies as both transvestite and transsexual.

I swear I'm not trying to be a troll here. I just wanted so much to be able to sit here and go "hey look someone is using gender inclusive language and actually including all genders, not just male and female"... and then it totally didn't happen.

@Ed

I went by the gender of the character. Many of these can be cosplayed by anyone, regardless of what gender they identify with. If you have a list of popular culture geek characters that are neither male or female, then please send it along and I will be more than happy to add them.

I was all ready to sit here and be all pleased with the work you'd done here, and was SERIOUSLY stoked by your use of "all genders"... right up until you said you'd broken the whole thing down into m/m, m/f, f/f pairings. That's a whole lot of "both" genders and not really any of "all". Mega disappointment.
