CONduit: Utah's Longest-Running and Largest General Sci-Fi and Fantasy Convention

CONduit 2010, dubbed "CONduit XX: Space Pirates of CONduit," will be held May 28-30, 2010 at the Radisson Downtown in Salt Lake City, Utah (USA). As the title notes, CONduit is the longest running and largest con of its type in the state of Utah. If you're a fan of sci-fi and fantasy, especially in art or literary form, then you should definitely check out this convention!

Some of the guests currently scheduled to appear at CONduit XX include: Barbara Hambly, Kevin Wasden, Ken Rand, L. E. Modesitt, Jr., Brandon Sanderson, Jaleta Clegg, Larry Correia, Kathleen Dalton-Woodbury, Robert J. Defendi, Laura Swift Lind, Brandon Mull, Ann Sharp, Eric James Stone, Elizabeth Waters, Anne Wingate, and many many more. This list includes not just authors, but editors, artists, podcasters, astronomers, technologist, podcasters, documentary producers, and script writers.

CONduit XX features numerous contests, like the following: chocoholics ("an annual celebration of the joy of chocolate and what good eatin' you can make with it"), filk (original and parody), flash fiction, costume (hall, masquerade, and mascot), models and miniatures, "Oldest Convention T-shirt", poetry, one hour miniature painting, and more. This is one of the most versatile lists of contests I think I have ever seen a convention offer.

Some of the other activities available are an art show, a vendor room, over 50 scheduled games (including four tables of Living Forgotten Realms D&D 4E), and panel discussions. Some of the panels scheduled for the convention include: "Sword Making", an art workshop, belly dancing, "Raising Geek Kids", "Gaming for Dummies", "Vampires: Dracula is not your Boyfriend", a chainmail workshop, quilling, and more.

Even though early registration is no longer available, you can pick up tickets at the door. You can save time by filling out the form on their website, which saves you from having to do it when you arrive. A weekend adult ticket is $45.00. Single day adult tickets range from $10 to $25. Teen and youth tickets are also available for the full weekend or for a single day. CONduit XX is also offering a special Family Weekend Pass, which is for two adults and four teen/youth for $150.00. Children 6 and under enter free.
